My mantra in life has truly been to speak your ideals to the world, describe what you hope to achieve and act with intent to reach that goal. Working with Thierry Mugler was literally this personified.
Back in the transition from modelling to blogging, I created a series of videos, namely Fireworks, Hentai and Mugler. These were shot in part by my friend Sam who is a phenomenal photographer and I felt they really were a fun way to show beauty ideas with video. My favourite series was inspired by the idea that back in the day, the supermodels would do their own makeup and my favourite designer other than Westwood, was Mugler. I loved everything about Mugler, their fragrances were something I focused on during my biochem MSc, I just adored the brand and used a backdrop of runway with the footage of me eluding to being backstage, getting ready.
I remixed the video, released for my own artistic expression on my cosmetics youtube and I love it. It reminds me of what I hoped to achieve and the fact I've done it!
So being approached to attend the European press release of the fragrance Aura, was a dream come true. I brought my assistant Abbey with me, we got some late birthday dinner and headed over to Mugler. The event was phenomenal, we were asked to note some key points about the new fragrance and saw a wonderful explanation of the perfume.
Aura goes back to the original branding of Angel and Alien, it took note from the 'A' naming system which differentiated from Womanity, another brand within the Mugler empire. The overdose fragrance notes were actually from Chinese Medicine, an almondy note called Tiger Liana. Other notes include Vanilla which is reminiscent of the creamy Shalamar style of vanilla, with Rhubarb, sparkling blossoms and an overall green, feminine fragrance. It has something about it that reminds me of Hypnotic Poison but where Dior heeds down, this elevates. It has a magical effect on women, the campaign was all about femininity and I think it smells distinctly stronger with female pheremones. It's a wet, intoxicating breath of fresh air and I love the idea that the bottle is a green heart, which is a metaphor for the fragrance itself, and the imagery around the campaign was jungle realness.
So the event was phenomenal, we got glowing cocktails and had engravings made on our bottles. It was a genius event and I was forever grateful for the invite! I am finishing the three videos I've created inspired by my original idea to do a set of moving beauty photography, inspired by Alien and Angel. I can't wait to show them as they come together!
