MAC X CRUELLA

Chatting to the wonderful people at MAC and Disney about creating some content for the launch of the fabulous Cruella movie was a treat! I wanted to create something with the products that didn’t look like the movies makeup, because it’s a very intriguing series of images. Some of the looks she wears reminded me of Pat Mcgrath, others felt like more sketchy 2020 Vogue covers with the Rihanna writing on the face which I hated, and others felt like they were of the era represented in the movie.

I wasn’t sure what the connection was between them all but I definitely was inspired by the manic portrayal of a young Cruella. For me, the inspiration was perfection turned into smoke. So I smudged the makeup which was immaculately applied to give soft focus skin, the groomed brows. I then took the colours in the palette MAC created which involved a very striking blue, and coated the lashes with hairspray and then layered the blue on top. I thought it was a way to contrast the red without having an obvious style to it.

The final element was to create a sort of chaotic feel where the image was broken as if it was made of glass. So I cut the image in two and reconnected it with slight affectations left in. I loved playing with these products and I’m super grateful for MAC and Disney for asking me to do so! They called me the Queen of Transformations which was a delight haha! So I gave them the obligatory Cruella transformation as well… Not my favourite thing to do in 2021 but for the coins I agreed.
